In 1587, the chateau was owned by the Duc d`Eperon, Admiral of France at the time. It is said that the ships passing through the chateau must lower half sails to show respect to Duc d`Eperon. He liked this tradition very much and decide to use lower-sail dragon boat as the logo of the chateau. The expression "Baisse-Vaille", meaning "lower sails", later evolved into the name Beychevelle.

1587年莊園屬於當時法國海軍總司令Duc D’Epernon公爵，傳說當時經過酒莊的船隻必須降下半帆以示對他的尊重。他對此非常喜歡，所以決定酒莊的標誌就以一艘下著半帆的龍船為標記，並以「Beychevelle」作為酒莊名字。「Beychevelle」就是由法文詞「Baisse-Voile--下半帆」演變而來的。
